Better Jobs Ontario (BJO)

We are excited to provide the program expanding to better help more people train for a new job! Receive financial help up to $28,000, or more in some cases. If you have been unemployed for six months or longer, and are part of a low-income household, you may benefit from this expanded program.

1. Laid-off due to COVID-19: A fast-track stream is available if you were laid-off because of COVID-19 and want to retrain for a job that has potential for future employment.

2. New Directions: Discover hundreds of potential careers that your background and skills fit perfectly. Better Jobs Ontario gives you a second chance! Career Guidance: Both public and private institutions offer excellent training for careers but how will you know what job is right for you? Browse the career listings then discuss your options with a school nearest you.

3. A Fresh Start: It’s not uncommon to switch careers nowadays. It gives us a chance to learn something new, try out a different field and stay excited about our work!

4. Support: Better Jobs Ontario is not a loan. It’s money that the Ontario government is giving away to people who have been negatively impacted.

Who is eligible?

Better Jobs Ontario provides eligible applicants with:

skills training for in-demand jobs
financial support

What to cover?

You can apply for up to $28,000 for costs, including:

tuition
books
other instructional costs, including student fees, supplies and electronic devices
transportation
basic living allowance (up to $500 per week)

Additional funding

Additional funding may be available for:

childcare
disability-related supports
living away from home
Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) and/or language training

Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP)

A Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) is a tax-advantaged savings account designed to help families save for their child’s post-secondary education in Canada. With an RESP, your savings grow tax-free, and the Canadian government may contribute to child through the Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG). Funds can be used for tuition, books, housing, and other education-related expenses once the beneficiary enrolls in a qualified program.

Flexible & Family-Friendly Contributions

An RESP can be opened and contributed to by parents, grandparents, relatives, or even family friends—as long as the child has a valid Canadian SIN.

This makes RESP a highly inclusive and collaborative savings plan, allowing families and communities to invest together in a child’s educational future.
